A first call is a chance to learn how a provider works. You do not need to commit during that conversation; focus on whether the answers are clear and specific to your situation.
Care and staffing
Ask what services are offered, how caregivers are selected and supported, whether the provider can match the requested schedule, and who steps in if the usual caregiver is unavailable.
If the person needs hands-on help, explain the routine plainly and ask whether the provider’s staff are trained and permitted to help with it.
Cost and logistics
Ask for the current rate, minimum visit, billing schedule, cancellation policy, and any different rates for evenings, weekends, holidays, or overnight care.
Ask how quickly services could begin and what information or assessment is needed before the first visit.
Communication and fit
Ask who your point of contact will be, how concerns are handled, and how the plan can be updated if the person’s needs change.
A clear answer is useful information. It is okay to speak with more than one provider before deciding what feels right.
